An improved real-ear test method has been developed for measurements on high-fidelity headphones. Tests of five high-quality stereophones were made using three couplers, and results are compared to real-ear measurements. Measurements of concha sound pressure response versus frequency were made in a listening room using human subjects. Frequency response requirements for headphones are established as the headphone electroacoustical transfer (HEAT) curve. A personal equalization procedure (PEP) for high-fidelity headphones is discusses as well as requirements for such equalizers.
