The ideal response of a sealed-box loudspeaker system is characterized by the resonant frequency and the Q of the system. It is possible to equalize the system characteristics by electronic means. The practical limitations that exist due to driver parameter variations and increased power requirements are examined. Computer analysis indicates that the overall equalized frequency and transient response can be seriously degraded by variations in driver parameters of as little as 20%. Results indicate that through judicious design decisions this technique may be employed successfully to improve the response of systems using drivers with realistic parameter spreads.
