Using Cavity Resonators as Low Frequency Absorbers and Transient Perception Improvers in Reverberating Spaces

The present paper introduces a new way of controlling the action of resonators systems, with the help of experiments held both in a reverberating room of known characteristics as well as in actual halls, to allow determination of the resonator . What is much less known resonator influence on transients perception, since a family of about 15 resonators tuned from 31.5 up to 200 Hz act from 200 up to 4000 Hz, such that speech intelligibility and musical instruments transients are much improved in spite of a long reverberation time in this frequency bandwidth. Further experiments in audio-studios show an acoustical efficiency, additionally appreciated for the compactness and minimal visibility of the system. Other applications and possible uses are described.
