Digital audio editing (electronic editing) has been developed as an alternative to tape splice editing, which could not be provided by the U-matic-based recorders introduced some eight years ago. Electronic editing systems offer many new features which cannot be encountered in tape splice editing so far; yet conventional electronic editors still require major improvement of several functions, especially in those areas where electronic editing becomes almost a must, especially for CD mastering. On the other hand, as technology develops, recorder systems based on different format and/or media become possible for specific needs. This paper describes a new-generation digital audio editing system which allows sophisticated editing and accommodates different types of recorders.
