Design and implementation details of a new 18-bit digital to analog converter are presented. The device is suitable for digital audio applications requiring unusually large dynamic range, low wideband noise, high speed and low distortion. Key design considerations include careful management of thermal effects, a low-glitch switching architecture and isolation of parasitic noise sources.
