The Sanken CU-41 two-way wide-band capacitor microphone was developed to meet the demands of modern digital recording, namely, extended frequency response, wide dynamic range, low noise, and superior pattern control. The microphone has two capsules vertically arrayed with a crossover frequency of 1 kHz. The unique design results in frequency response from 20 Hz to 20 kHz, flat within 1 dB, and it exhibits uniform cardioid pattern control in the horizontal plane over the entire audio band. The development of the CU-41 began in 1973, and it took four years to complete the current design. Because of its superior performance characteristics, it has been widely used by professional recording engineers throughout the world, especially in the production of compact discs.
