A Signal Biasing Output Transformerless Transistor Power Amplifier

Power amplifiers are usually designed to perform best into a purely dissipative load of constant value. Loudspeaker systems however contain large reactive impedance components capable of considerable energy storage. Recognizing this fact a simple output transformerless transistor power amplifier is developed which, through the expedience of extracting a small amount of stored loudspeaker energy when required, is capable of delivering low subjective distortion to a loduspeaker system while maintaining an electrical operating efficiency approaching that of a conventional Class B amplifier.
