Many electronic musicians have difficulty programming desired timbres on FM synthesizers. Programming intuition can be enhanced by a computer program arising as an intermediate step in a more comprehensive ongoing project. In our preprint, we provide a public-domain program for use with a popular personal computer. The program inputs include FM synthesis parameters such as carrier and modulator frequencies and index of modulation or related modulator level parameter used in a popular family of FM synthesizers. The program displays the resulting waveforms and their spectra.
