A single-channel adaptive audio equalizer, with 32 third-octave bands for professional use, has been developed. The conventional slider potentiometers have been replaced by 8-bit DAC`s to give full digital control. This is combined with a bandpass filter with digitally-programmable centre frequency, acting as a spectrum analyzer, to allow the instrument to measure the frequency-response of a listening room, and automatically apply the inverse response to mull the coloration. Alternative responses may be manually programmed and stored in preset memory for easy recall, and mathematical functions upon a stored response are also possible.
