A composite of ion plated ultra-fine diamond shaped crystals of hardened carbon film on titanium substrate was shown to offer physical properties highly suited to application as a speaker diaphragm material. It was established that, in contrast to previously tried single materials, this composite`s internal loss is sufficient to raise the sound propagation velocity dependent high range resonance frequency with a view toward improvement of frequency response.
