Transient Analysis: A Design Tool in Loudspeaker Systems Engineering

A transient analysis, linear and non-linear modeling technique is described, which is specifically designed for time domain investigation of loudspeaker drive units and crossover networks. Such systems are frequently of high order and not readily amenable to solution by analytical techniques. To demonstrate the model, loudspeaker current demand under complex dynamic excitation is described in detail. Extensions to the model allow the introduction of system non-linearity, such as motor system flux language giving rise to B1 product modulation. Results are presented from the model showing the ensuing cone drift and distortion.
