In the purely digital sound processing context, a digital mixing desk is essential as the central element of the recording, mixing or broadcasting studio. In addition to a better sound quality, the operating facilities offered are dramatically increased. The following paper describes design ideas and the architecture of such a console. Its role in the future digital studio is also examined.
