The hemispherical film projection used in space theaters puts specific demands on both the acoustics and the sound system of the theater. Apart from the traditional acoustical problems, such as reverberation time and avoiding echos, one of the major problems appears to be achieving proper localization of the sound in accordance with the projected image. A specific case, where the localization problem was solved using 38 wide-dispersion loudspeaker systems, is described, as well as the acoustical treatment of both a cylindrical and a dome-shaped theater. Measuring results, including TDS data, are included.
