Dynamic Linearity and Power Compression in Moving-Coil Loudspeakers

All loudspeakers exhibit changes in their performance characteristics as the input drive level is increased. The most pervasicve of these effects is the rise in voice-coil resistance which accompanies coil heating due to inefficiency of power transfer. Comparative measurements of various loudspeaker designs at multiple drive levels will demonstrate reduction in efficiency, change in fundamental parameters, and other distortion mechanisms which transducers exhibit at high power inputs.
