Accurate testing of PCM audio systems will require a new generation of DSP-based equipment and test signal standards. Arguments are made for more sophisticated spectral analysis, with less emphasis on the present THD specification. A set of specific guidelines is proposed to accomplish this testing with maximum accuracy.
