Asynchronous Routing (An Asynchronous Digital Switching Matrix)

For the task of routing digital audio signals, the usually preferred technique of time delay multiplexing appears not to be as efficient for a low number of channels and/or the processing of heterogeneous origin signals. The architecture of a cross-point routing matrix is described here, allowing an easy management of asynchronous inputs and providing an economical alternative for little to middle size systems. An original principal for switching the AES/EBU interface signal is implemented, avoiding the drawbacks commonly expected in switching digital signals in a serial format.
