This paper reviews the interactions between microphones, loudspeakers, sound sources, and acoustical spaces, and discusses how they affect timbre throughout the recording/playback chain. It is hoped that the discussion of these interactions will show the need for including the domestic reproduction environment as part of the feedback loop during the recording process.
