A photoacoustic cell is used to measure the absorptance of gases at infrared wavelengths. A pressure pulse is created when the gas absorbs a light pulse, exciting resonances within the cell. A microphone provides the cell`s output signal whose energy is (ideally) proportional to the absorbed light energy. The paper describes a novel approach for processing the cell`s noisy output.
