A loudspeaker cabinet is mechanically excited by the motion of the driver units mounted on it, which leads to acoustic radiation by the cabinet. It is difficult to measure this cabinet radiation independently of the direct sound radiated by the drivers themselves. In this investigation, we have measured the cabinet wall acceleration directly, and used the Helmholtz integral equation to compute the sound field radiated by the cabinet. We show graphs of the cabinet contribution to the total radiated field as a function of frequency for a number of closed-box loudspeakers.
