This paper discusses acoustical computer aided design, A-CAD, as applied in room acoustics an audio engineering. A-CAD is a process in which the sound transmission properties of models of rooms are studied through the use of mirror image or other prediction computer programs and where the sound characteristics of models can be listened to through the use of a simulator or of convolution of the predicted room impulse response with speech and music signals. Some limitations are discussed. Various aspects of the use of A-CAD in ongoing research on room acoustics at the department of Applied Acoustics at Chalmers University of Technology are discussed as are some current experiments.
