Digital Filter Design Algorithms for Use in Digital Audio Signal Processing

This paper presents the algorithms used in Momentum Data Systems filter design and analysis system, a design tool for the generation of digital filters from a simple problem definition. Digital filters are typically specified by their magnitude and possibly phase requirements. Simple examples are lowpass filters where the passband and stopband edges are specified in Hertz and the attenuation values in decibels. The design algorithms presented start with this simple problem definition and generate the necessary coefficients for implementation of an Infinite Impulse Response (IIR) filter or a Finite Impulse Response (FIR) filter.
