Audio signal processing for functions such as fade-in and fade-out going into stop, play, or record, or the cross-fade while switching between input and repro, are relatively simple to implement in an analog recorder. To do the same in a digital recorder requires very fast and complex hardware. Usually, this hardware must also allow for various error processing functions, such as interpolation, mute and splice. All of today`s solutions are based on a discrete hardware approach, which results in very little flexibility and a long development time. This paper shows that a standard signal processor, such as the well-known TMS32010, can implement all of the audio signal processing functions which are necessary in a digital recorder.
