The time offset due to acoustical center displacements in multiway loudspeakers is corrected by using nonsymmetrical crossovers of different orders, where the group delay difference coincides with the time offset. The phase match is restricted to frequencies close to the crossover frequency, which nevertheless produces symmetric polar behavior and flat magnitude of the summed response for a considerable range of compensated time offsets. This method is well suited for passive crossover networks, where time offset correction by all-pass filters is not possible. The coefficients for a number of two-way crossover filters with varied time offsets are presented as examples. Furthermore, for experimental verification, the passive crossover of an available loudspeaker is optimized.
