The collections and services of the British Library National Sound Archive (NSA) are surveyed and the primary role of service development in the NSA`s forward plan is indicated. The collaboration of the NSA in an EC-funded Project to develop a prototype system for remote access to sound achrives from libraries is described and the paper concludes with a brief reference to future developments.
