Several years ago, CBC built two experimental studios for TV and radio sound post-production. They were intended to investigate the technical and operational benefits of digital tools for audio production, and to gain technical experience that could be applied to future installations. The paper describes some of the problems encountered and the techniques used to avoid them and concludes with a review of recent developments and their potential for changing future radio production.
