This paper explores the evolution of computer-controlled technologies in the professional audio industry and its influence on AES15, and the current efforts of the SC-10 Subcommittee on Sound System Control of the AES Standards Committee. Particular emphasis is paid to the strengths and weaknesses of MIDI which led to AES15, and the strengths and weaknesses of PA-422 which led to the current DRAFT AES-24ID-xxxx. A discussion of the working-group structure of SC-10 and current activities within the subcommittee will also be provided.
