This paper describes a procedure used in approximately fifty rooms with sound reinforcing systems, in the development of a process for controlling major room-ring modes. These are the modes which seriously interfere with the performance of the room itself, in the absence of a sound system, and of the room and the sound system viewed as a total electro-acoustic system. Our procedure employs a combination of narrow-band filters, each centered on its mode as the modes occur, and various types of broad-band equalizers which are conventionally used in smoothing the over-all response.
