In the 1950s the Japanese music industry had recovered quickly from the damage during World War II and became the second-largest market in the world. Monitoring loudspeakers imported from the United States and Europe contributed to the growth. However, Japanese-made monitoring loudspeakers are being used widely in recording studios and broadcasting studios. The 50-year history of the main monitoring loudspeakers in Japan and the design philosophy of the Japanese-made monitoring loudspeaker are reviewed.
