A technique for recording measurement tapes with very low residual flutter has been the subject of an experimental investigation. A recorder with full transport servo was utilized to make high-speed recordings for measurement at standard speeds. The recorder has low inherent flutter, exceeding the manufacturer`s specifications. A measurable improvement in the residual flutter of recordings made with this technique has been demonstrated and compared to the results obtained from the common method of recording at the playback speed.
