A new method for the enhancement of audio signals using a frequency domain noise gate is presented. The noise gate is applied individually on selective frequencies, its operation being controlled by the masking properties of the hearing system. For broadband audio signal corrupted by colored noise, the proposed method eliminates all audible noise while preserving the quality of the signal.
