A Perceptual Objective Measurement System (POM) for the Quality Assessment of Perceptual Codecs

A model of the human ear has been developed according to the physiology and psychology of hearing. Since it predicts well-known experimental results and is able to reproduce with accuracy results of experiments on masking phenomena, it has also been used as a perceptual objective measurement (POM) in the quality assessment of audio bit-rate reduction perceptual codecs.
