A discussion dealing with design theory, construction implementation, and acoustic testing a large rehearsal room (approximately 300-square feet) for the music department of an upstate New York community college. This room and the adjoining music department acoustic spaces were completed during the past 12 months as part of a larger addition to the college`s main building facility. The rehearsal space involves the following design elements: low NC levels due to recording requirements as part of the larger facility, and certain manually variable acoustic elements because the room serves as rehearsal space for a wide variety of acoustic and electronic ensembles. The paper discusses: 1) The use of an acoustic ray trace software, called computerized acoustic ray trace (CART) showing the various proposed designs and, of course, the final solution resulting in room shapes and final room surface treatments. 2) Construction details as well as certain HVAC duct routings, contributing to the target NC design values. 3) Additional diagrams and photographs of internal wall treatments. 4) Measured RT60s for the rehearsal room before and after application of all room treatments. The paper will include architectural drawings, ray trace diagrams, RT60 calculations, measured results (time and frequency domain), and photographs of the room before and after surface treatment application(s).
