Digital-Crossover Design Strategy for Drive Units with Impaired and Noncoincident Polar Characteristics

In a practical multidrive unit loudspeaker, true complementary crossover filter functions are not possible, and high-order alignments can result in subjective impairments. This paper considers the relationship between crossover pre-ring and drive unit polar response. It proposes a new Gaussian alignment that is designed to minimize the dispersive residue in the presence of suboptimum acoustic conditions.
