Binaural-Based 3-D Audio System: The Orthostereophonic System (OSS) and Applications

The orthostereophonic system (OSS) has been proposed and developed as a standard recording and reproduction system for researching into the relation between binaural-based objective data and subjective parameters of various soundfields or several audio instruments. OSS was applied to analyze soundfields, concert halls, control rooms of recording studios, and vehicular cabins. The paper discusses the construction of a three-dimensional audio system applying the OSS technique. Several of the results of soundfield analysis and the challenge to three-dimensional audio using the OSS are examined.
