This paper basically describes various impairments to good stereo television audio reproduction in modern television receivers. Specific examples discussed include: misadjustment of the BTSC decoder`s wideband VCA; misadjustment of the spectral de-emphasis; the impact of eliminating the spectral de-emphasis or replacing it with a fixed-filter network. Examples drawn from simulations of these conditions are presented as graphs of frequency response.
