A PC-based data-acquisition interface was built and used to measure the dynamic power histories of approximately 150 samples of recorded music. Each graph represents the maximum level of the musical signal versus its duration (from a few milliseconds up to 1 minute). The results may be used to design more efficient audio amplifiers, and to define a better test signal for evaluating an amplifier`s musically useful dynamic headroom.
