The sound pressure levels at low frequencies in a room will be influenced by the coupling between the loudspeakers and the eigenmodes of the room. The coupling depends on loudspeaker placement. Results are presented based on theoretical calculations for shoebox-shaped rooms and are compared to measurements. The magnitude of the variations can be described using a ripple criterion. Results show that there are optimum positions which minimize ripple.
