This paper presents a new approximation method for the design of pseudo-qmf filter banks used in high-quality audio subband coding. It is based on the polyphase structure of implementation of the analysis and synthesis filter banks. Approximation takes account of both time-domain constraints derived from this polyphase structure and classical frequency-domain constraints issued from the definition of pseudo-qmf filters.
