Wave-theoretical treatment is introduced into a multi-loudspeaker for an auralization system. Wave phenomenon plays an important role in the recognition of sound field synthesis in a room and the technical limitation concerning this problem is now being solved through the development of hardware. In this sound field simulator, reflected waves obtained from calculations are divided into three groups: early reflections, late reflections before -Nachhalleinsatzzeit- and, following that, late reverberation. Waves belonging to the first group, which are the most important early reflections, are synthesized by convoluting corresponding impulse responses at the reflected surface. The late reverberation is synthesized by convoluting modified impulse responses, which were measured previously in real rooms of various shapes and scales. The simulated sound is compared with real room measurement.
