A High Power Solid State Amplifier

This paper describes a development which was undertaken, first to investigate the feasibility of the use of transistors in high power audio amplifiers in the 200 to 400 watt output power range, and secondly, if feasible, to develop as a product a quality power amplifier and power supply, using solid state devices, for industrial and/or military use. Low cost was not an immediate objective; instead, wide full-power frequency range, moderately low distortion, high overall efficiency, compactness, and long operating lifetime without failure were primary considerations.
