In the United States, implementation of Digital Audio Radio (DAR) is less developed than in other countries. Currently, nine proposed technologies are under laboratory and field testing and results are expected later this year. Such comparative evaluations are unique in the world community and the test data should provide an objective, impartial technical basis to formulate implementation policy. This paper describes the committee process established to perform and evaluate DAR system testing, the systems themselves, and expected timeframe for completion. Options available in the U.S. for subsequent actions are also presented.
