Backward Adaptive Lossless Coding of Audio Signals

This paper presents a method of removing redundancy from the audio signal, for lossless coding systems. This new method needs no extra side information and is thus a simpler and more efficient signal format. The problems of earlier approaches are reviewed. The backward adaptive technique is then described and the way it gives improved performance explained. The effects of channel errors and means of reducing their effects will also be discussed. The paper will conclude by presenting examples of the new structure in action and without channel errors.
