The concept of noncausal zero-phase IIR filters is used to create linear-phase sound processing filters (e.g., sound controllers, equalizers, or crossover filters). Design methodologies for the realization of a broad class of magnitude responses are presented. The linear-phase IIR filters are compared to their equivalent linear-phase FIR filters. Several sound processing filters have been designed as linear-phase IIR filters. The results of their computer simulation and implementation on a DSP are presented.
