Spectrography by Human Hearing Modelling

Traditional spectrography effectively makes use of a bank of fixed bandwidth band-pass filters. The bandwidth can be adjusted to optimize the time and frequency resolution of the spectrogram. Acoustic analysis by the human ear makes use of a bank of band-pass filters whose bandwidth changes as a function of center frequency. The paper describes a real-time transputer-based implementation of a human hearing modeling spectrograph and spectrograms from a variety of acoustic data.
