A New Method of Generating Artificial Reverberant Sound

A new method of generating reverberation with a natural tone color was developed in order to realize sound-field control in an auditorium. The method, described in this paper, reduces the number of taps of the FIR filter necessary for convolution, introducing auditory temporal masking. The number of taps of the FIR filter is less than 1/10 compared with the original operation. Furthermore, it is verified by a psychoacoustical experiment that this method can generate more natural reverberation than that generated by the original method.
