A new recording method for audio signals, employing 1-bit oversampling sigma-delta modulation (bit-stream or DSD), has recently been proposed. To reduce the required storage capacity, a lossless coding scheme as described in [1] can be applied. This scheme results in a lossless coding gain, which varies on a frame basis, thus implying a variable bit rate. In some applications, it is important to have a constant bit rate and consequently buffering is required. In this paper, methods are presented for doing this. Furthermore, alternative lossless coding schemes employing adaptive or linear prediction and `arithmetic coding` are presented. It is demonstrated that at the expense of coder complexity, the coding gain can be drastically improved.
