A New Laboratory and Methodology for the Subjective Evaluation of Workstation Audio Systems

A new methodology and laboratory for conducting controlled double-blind listening tests of computer audio systems are described. The important but problematic nuisance variables unique to testing computer audio are addressed in this method. A novel feature of the test facility is a computer-controlled index table that allows rapid comparisons among up to four different computer speaker systems eliminating the variable of loudspeaker position. Results from recent listening tests verify that the method is efficient and repeatable.
