Digital dynamics control can generate aliasing distortion within an audio processor. With DSP, these issues can create added audible distortion, propagation delay, and/or overshoots. Why has it been so difficult to create successful-sounding digital signal processors for broadcast? This paper offers information about the cause and effect of aliasing distortion generated in compressors, limiters and clippers. Consideration must be given to sampling rate, algorithm design, time delay, and DSP architecture or sonic performance degrades. The presentation will cover some design criteria that will aid in eliminating this problem.
