Nonlinear Dynamical Behavior of a Moving Voice Coil

At low frequencies a loudspeaker (woofer) is commonly modeled using lumped parameters. In this paper a simple lumped parameter model is analyzed from a dynamical system point of view. The purpose of this paper is to study the effects of nonlinear parameters, such as the variation of the magnetic field linkage BL(x) and stiffness K(x) (as functions of displacement x), on the stability of the moving voice coil. In particular, we shall study the resonant regions of this dynamical system and describe how these regions change as the control parameters, such as the mean value of BL, voltage, and forcing frequency, are varied.
