Fixed point implementation of digital filters inherently suffers from dynamic range limitation. Linear predictive source coding techniques reduce the variance of the source signal and can, therefore, be applied in combination with those filters to effectively enlarge their dynamic ranges. This paper presents results of investigations on using linear predictive approaches for dynamic range enhancement in the case of audio filters.
